Male Breast Reduction

Excess fatty tissue in males can often have the appearance of breast tissue.  It is an extremely common medical condition called Gynaecomastia. Often men develop this excess fatty tissue during puberty, but it can also occur later in life, sometimes caused by certain drugs such as steroids.  Often, dieting and specific exercise plans can help to reduce the appearance of breast tissue, however, sometimes the only way to improve the appearance of the chest is through male breast reduction surgery. Depending on your specific requirements, Mr Ghattaura will suggest either liposuction or surgery.  Men with this particular condition often feel self conscious resulting in a lack of overall confidence which affects their general well being in life.

What is involved in the procedure?

Once you have decided to go ahead with surgery, you will decide on a date that is suitable for you.  You will generally need to stay in hospital for 1 night following surgery to ensure you feel well and rested after the surgery and general anaesthetic.  The procedure that you have will depend on whether or not you have liposuction or have an excision made to remove excess fatty tissue and skin.

For either procedure you will have a general anaesthetic, so you will sleep throughout the entire operation.  Dressings will be applied once the surgery is finished.

Time to Recover

During the first week of recovery you will need plenty of rest and limited movement to allow your body to heal.  You will probably need to take one week off from your normal work or busy routine. After one week you will return to hospital to have your stitches removed.  Post surgery you will need to take it easy for 4 weeks. After this time you can expect to return to your normal life, including exercise.

This type of surgery is increasingly extremely common and it can have a really positive effect on your confidence and well being.  Ultimately, you will be able to find that clothes and swimwear will look and feel so much better, restoring your confidence.
